Work: Personal work, but not casual work. The posters came out of a fallow period of nearly a year of unemployment and a growing suspicion that my instincts had calcified into habits. So I threw out the grids, the disciplined palettes, and the type systems that had started to feel more like crutches than strengths. The animated work below is the structural opposite, rigidly gridded, built from my own typefaces, and locked to a CMYK palette. Like much of the subject matter, they are crude and blunt. Yet both bodies of work were driven by the same impulse: make the thing and tell the truth.
